I love getting to go a second time around the block with a sister-client. It’s the biggest honor and more of a joy than I know how to put into words. So I was delighted when Paul and Whitney invited me to be their “doula-tographer” a second time. The walk with them was sweet and straightforward. This time they were in a new home, which took some adjusting, and they were also about to face the reality of having three kids really close together. That also took some reckoning. But I never doubted that they were made of the stuff that could take that on keep their sense of humor while they’re at it. There’s such love here.
And not long later, I came back, somewhat in a hurry, because labor had commenced. And we know from past experience that labor is pretty fast-moving for Whitney! In fact, we had some conversations about what to do if the midwife and I didn’t make it in time. I was delighted to find her feeling confident and okay that even if that were to happen, they’d be alright.
Henry DID come quite quickly and very smoothly. Our prayers for her placenta to detachand come out without assistance from her midwife being necessary were answered, too. And as morning dawned, Henry’s big brother and sister wandered in to meet him. It all was just so perfect.
I went back to check in on them a few days later and a again a few weeks later, finding them happy and well each time. They’re outnumbered now by an army aged 3 and under, but they are doing it with the support of their family and the strong foundation of their marriage. I love watching families bloom!
